Tomorrow is orange shirt day! From the SFSD Office of Indian Education: What is Orange Shirt Day? Saturday September 30th, 2023 is Orange shirt day which began in Canada in 2013. It promotes awareness about the history of American Indian and Native Residential boarding school systems which still impact Native American and First Nations communities in the United States and Canada. The day honors the children who were removed from their families and forced into boarding schools and remembers those who never returned home. You may see students wearing Orange shirts on Friday Sept. 29th or Saturday, September 30th, 2023, in observation of Orange Shirt day. Please join them if you wish…because EVERY CHILD MATTERS!

A new group "M.O.V.E" (Men of Value & Education) has been formed at RF/CC! Please consider volunteering to be a man of value and education in our school. Having a strong male role model in our building can make a huge difference in many students lives. M.O.V.E allows father figures to be visible in our building during the school day and show their support for learning. It's often the norm that mothers are more involved in the education experience than fathers and M.O. V. E. allows us to change that or bridge the gap. You will get an opportunity to be with your student in their classroom as well as help in other classrooms or areas throughout the day. Dads, please feel free to reach out to our school counselor, Sonja Smith through email if you'd like to sign up. Sonja.m.Smith@k12.sd.us
